After a somewhat cloudy start to the day, by lunchtime we were blessed once again with blue skies. The heavy rainfall, of the past couple of days, has performed a wonderful task of refreshing both lawn and garden borders. The water level of the pond had risen considerably so, there was no problem on drawing off several bucketfuls of water to rinse the pond filters, a task which I had failed to tackle during the cloying heat.
It was wonderful to observe the large white butterflies, returning to feast on the lavender and, shortly afterwards, an abundance of painted ladies, peacock, and small tortoiseshells staged a sit in on the buddleia. Fortunately the temperature didn’t soar at all to those all too recently experienced. It would be interesting to know where all the varied species found shelter during the torrential rain, as I’d been having visions of a butterfly apocalypse.
I rejoice, and am glad, in this day the Lord has made.
